In 2002 an organized grassroots effort began responding to the epidemic of runaway and homeless youth that identify as LGBTQI2-S, Lucky S Michaels was employed that at Sylvia’s Place. As director, Lucky helped create a low-barrier program addressing the specific needs of these youth. She was appointed to and has served several years on the National Advisory Council for LGBTQ youth.

Author of "Shelter" a photo essay and advocacy tool appeared in the NY Times, The Advocate and earned Lucky a place in the list of top 40 advocates for the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Her personal story as a youngster was included in Kicked Out combined with her professional career give her unique insight in this field. Then directed her first music video Thorn in the Side of a Boy and hopes to publish "Child Support" an autobiographical photo essay about her family.

She is an advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS and coauthored the CDC HIV Testing Guidelines and the Rapid and Conventional Testing Practices of Homeless Youth.

Published most recently in the Lawyer’s Manual on Human Trafficking. Her current work focuses on the sexual exploitation and human trafficking of minors, sex for survival, and sex work. Mental health services for all, tackling the discrimination of trans individuals, and ensuring policy and legislative change to better the lives of LGBTQI2-S youth are her passions. As a voice to NGO's, CBO's, and academia she will provide technical assistance and developmental support. She's a Trans advocate through and through.
